Somewhere in the span of a month, I’ve become completely overwhelmed with the idea of flying across the country and leaving my husband, son, and extended family to go to a the THE blogging conference of the year, known as BlogHer’12. Held in NYC this year, over 4200 women and men bloggers will flock to learn, socialize, swag…… and in the midst of trying to understand what all of it means, I have this knee-jerk reaction of closing my eyes and putting my face in my hands. When I do this in front of HJ about something like, well, locking yourself out of your apartment for 2 hours during nap time and without a cell phone or accurate use of the native language, he asks, “Momma sad?” (I have the best boy, so insightful at the tender age of 2 years and nine months.)
Is Momma sad about BlogHer’12? I don’t think I’m sad, instead just trying to forge my path through hundreds of posts about what I should and should not do, things I should bring, things I shouldn’t do, or say, FB comments, Twitter comments, emails, party invitations…. face in hands.
So I did exactly this: I opened up the schedule of the ACTUAL conference, and picked my favorite sessions, noteworthy BlogHer’12 sponsors, and thought to myself that if nothing else, I am going to learn. A lot. And meet some great people (okay a lot of great people).
I’ve generally avoided talking about this conference because although some of you are bloggers, I know many a reader isn’t and who wants to hear about something you care little to nothing about?? (I know I don’t.)

You aren’t alone? I am starting to feel overwhelmed myself. I am determined to have a great time and meet new people even if that means going off “schedule”. Hopefully we’ll meet!
I’d love to catch up with you Mimi.
You’re going to this? How cool! : ) I wanted to go to this but the tickets are a bit pricey for me. Such a shame because I’m in NYC! Have fun! I look forward to reading your recap of the event!
I am really excited to go! There will be much on the reporting front!
Congratulations on attending Blog Her!! I’ve heard it is an amazing experience. I cannot wait to hear abou tit.
Thanks girl, and a big congrats to you!!
I’ll be there. Come hug me. Last year was my first and I knew NOTHING about parties and sponsors and swag and still had a great, super busy time. This year I made time in my schedule for just hanging out – I’m hosting in the Serenity Suite from 2-4 on Saturday and I’d love to see you.
I’ll definitely find you for a hug. I’m a hugger, and I’m okay with that!
I am with you … isn’t it crazy you feel like you should schedule commenting time on twitter??? I’m loving your blog because we have plans to move abroad in 2014…part of a crazy dream on my part…So, hoping to find you in 2 weeks & learn more about your journey! I SO admire your efforts to come to NYC from Paris. It’s hard to leave your family, and I’m sure it’s intensified when international. I am going to DM my cell # to you on Twitter …I get in on Wed night and am going to Pathfinder Day. I know there is a group of us meeting at the hotel bar Wed night if are in town. If not, let’s plan to meet! (PS, I am actually EXCITED to learn & attend the sessions…so that is what my schedule is full of too
)
I will keep my eyes open for you for sure! I’ll send you my number (if I end up stealing my mom’s US phone to use) and we can meet up! I’m coming in on Thursday morning but thank you so much for the Wed. night offer! Have a fun time and I’ll look for you!
I am here to remind you that you are a very special person, and while you will be anxious about going and what people will think of you and your blog, you have to remember that they will be anxious. Oh yeah, and they will be lucky to meet YOU!!! You have a lot to offer in ideas, enthusiasm and compassion. Don’t forget that.
Thank you for this Pretty Patti, I miss you!
[...] We’re flying out tomorrow morning and taking advantage of a car rental to see as much of the beautiful land as one can with a toddler and only 5 days to do so. After Iceland we head to the US to see our families, soaking in as much family time as we can. And then there’s that little thing called BlogHer’12. [...]
