Don’t judge me, but I hate frosting. I’ll eat cake to my heart’s content if I separate it from its sugary counterpart. So naturally, I’m not a big fan of cupcakes with their equal parts of frosting and cake. Until now. Sugar Daze, an American cupcake bakery in Paris has converted me to the dark side. I fear for my teeth, and my diet.
We recently stopped by Sugar Daze to meet Cat, owner and American turned Parisian who recently expanded her cupcake mecca to include a fun shop in the 9th arrondissement. Even though he had carte blanche over the array of adorned cupcakes, HJ enjoyed a piece of chocolate cake and milk.
We took home two carefully selected cupcakes to enjoy while HJ napped. I chose “Rolo Over Beethoven,” a rich, chocolate cake with a salted caramel center, with chocolate butter-cream frosting and chocolate chips. Papa enjoyed an “Empire State of Mind,” an apple spice cake with maple-cinnamon cream cheese frosting. Papa, who NEVER comments about food said, “This is amazing,” at least three times. And I completely agree.
These were the most amazing cake confections I’ve ever tasted. Ever.
If you’re in the Paris area, make sure to stop by Sugar Daze, located at 20 rue Henry Monnier, 75009. It will be worth it, trust me!

My heart just stopped a little when I got my google alert which I interpreted as “I Hated Sugar Daze cupcakes.” Thank goodness, I read on! This is one of the sweetest blog posts I have ever read. Thank you so much for the resounding endorsement – I am delighted to have converted you to the dark side (one of my favorite parts of the job!). It was so nice to meet you and your family and I hope to see you guys again soon. Cat x
If anyone will convert you, it’s Cat
